Sometimes I think our American culture has this wedding thing all wrong.
Don’t get me wrong. I love a wedding day. I’ve been to more weddings than the average person. I am enchanted with two people in love, desiring to make a lifetime commitment…and everything that comes with this.
AND here’s the rub. There is so much focus on wedding day ‘planning’ for many couples that conversation and/or pre-marriage work around building a lifetime partnership may get lost in translation.
So, here is what I offer. As you plan your wedding day, formal or casual, a big guest list or tiny guest list, take time out to be together…just the two of you. Take intentional time to discuss your goals, your road rules, your convenants, your ‘agree to disagree’ areas, your non-negotiables, the possibly awkward question or answer, and much more – do it, do it.
By building a purpose filled framework for your marriage before your wedding day, you will create more peace, comfort, and assurance that on your ‘big day,’ you are both making the highest choices for your lives.
